Rocky Creek runs from its headwaters in the Ventana, through a magical fairy forest, and into the Pacific Ocean on the Big Sur Coastline. The iconic bridge spans the small valley above with Hwy 1 running across both north and south. I chose to carve a lonely stretch of road, with no people or cars, the way it was growing up here when you could still sit and not see another human for hours. I miss that.
Printed by hand on 9" x 11" Legion Stonehenge Paper in Burnt Umber or Black ink.
Each print is numbered and signed by the artist and part of a limited edition.
Original block print by Iris McGilloway
ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Tassajara Outpost and Wild Iris Art founder, Iris McGilloway, cannot remember a time when she wasn't creating. The mystical spirit of California’s Monterey Peninsula, and the artists and landscape that surrounded her, inspired her as she dabbled in painting and art as a child. She now raises her daughters on a beautiful slice of land deep in the Carmel Valley, where she tends to livestock and a large apothecary garden that she makes medicinal potions from. Observing the natural world through a lens of textures and colors sparks endless exploration of various mediums such as block printing, painting, drawing, wood engraving, metal work and cooking for her art to emerge through.
